23. When the government poisoned 10,000 people

Prohibition itself is an extraordinary moment in history. The things that happened during that era, including the death of 10,000 people will forever be remembered. During the alcohol ban, the government had a hard time keeping up with the bootleggers. It seemed that everyone knew of an illegal alcohol ring or speakeasy that had just popped up. It’s said that many people turned to different types of alcohol like those in paint thinner to get drunk. The government aided companies with adding chemicals that couldn’t be filtered out, like anti-freeze, knowing it would poison the people that chose to take a drink. It’s reported that 10,000 people died from drinking it.
