The disappearance of the first woman to fly across the Atlantic solo is another extraordinary moment in history. While attempting to fly around the world in one single trip, something happened to Amelia Earhart. On June 2, the last transmission from her radio to base was received. In the air, somewhere over the central part of the pacific ocean, she disappeared without a trace. A long rescue mission took place but no sign of her or her plane were ever found. Theories have circulated since her 1937 death about what happened but the truth still remains unknown.
