3. Rehearsal for the Invasion of Normandy
In April of 1944, American troops practiced their amphibious invasion technique in England. Landing on Slapton Sands, the troops seen here are running a dress rehearsal for the biggest invasion of World War II. The first day of this invasion is commonly known as D-Day and the beginning of the end of World War II. The actual invasion would take place a couple months later in June, when troops could be seen crawling up the Normandy beaches just like they are in this photo.
