This extraordinary moment in history is rarely recognized. The original postal system was created by Genghis Kahn. Since his empire stretched farther than messages could easily travel in those days, he devised a plan that would allow for messages to be delivered. A new station was placed about every 100 miles. The stations were for more than just mail and included fresh horses, supplies and water. It’s been said that by the end of the Yuan Dynasty, over 1400 of those stations existed throughout China alone.
