9. The KKK on Pennsylvania Avenue
This photo marks an extraordinary moment in history that brought more than 25,000 proponents of white supremacy to the capital. When this photo was taken in 1925, the KKK was peaking in power. On the 8th day of August, they descended on Pennsylvania Avenue to spread their message of hate. At the time they were mostly against African Americans, Catholics and Jews having any rights. While their power was at it’s height during the 20s, the KKK and it’s members are still alive and well. It’s reported that the message of hate and march on DC in 1925 was much more well received than their rallies today.
