17. Caged Humans at the Zoo

This unbelievable photo isn’t a joke. Human zoos, and caged humans at zoos were very common in the 19th and 20th century. Some public exhibits that included humans also existed into the 21st century and has been seen as late as 2007. Originally, these exhibits were meant to show humans in a more primitive way. They were used to show the difference between the European people and the less civilized natives. Now seen as blatant racism, these human exhibits at zoos that showed indigenous people as less than, is just part of a very troubled and prejudiced past.
