19. Women wearing leg makeup

When an immediate fashion success suddenly became unavailable, the women of the 40s improvised. The woman seen in this unbelievable photo from history is doing just that. After all nylon manufacturing efforts were dedicated to our efforts in World War II, women began to paint on their stockings for show. Applying leg makeup was common practice during the war years. Drawing on the seam was also a popular fashion trend until the war ended and the regular nylon stockings could be produced again.
