32. A Corporal Punishment Device
This unbelievable photo from history shows a convicted man being punished with a cangue. The Cangue was a punishment and torture device commonly used in Southeast Asia. It was a wooden board place over the shoulders that weighed nearly 30 lbs. Because of its size, it was often difficult to move or stand for the 24 hours that the punishment required. This often meant death for the convicted, likely due to starvation. Sadly, this torturous punishment was used through the 19th century and even into the early part of the 20th century.
