33. A man who was scalped

This unbelievable photo shows the wounds of a brave Texan that was scalped by some Native Americans. Not many people survived being scalped, but Josiah Wilbarger did. Reports say he lived 11 years after the attack from the Comanche Natives. Originally from Virginia, he and several of his friends were part of a “surveying party” that was looking for land to steal around present day Austin. While they were there, they were attacked. Two escaped, while one was killed before the eyes of Wilbarger. Left for dead, the eventually crawled to the river to wash his wounds and await his rescue.
