Animal Crackers ★★★½ 1930 (G)

The second and possibly the funniest of the 13 Marx Brothers films, “Animal Crackers” is a screen classic. Groucho is a guest at the house of wealthy matron Margaret Dumont and he, along with Zeppo, Chico, and Harpo, destroy the tranquility of the estate. Complete with the Harry Ruby music score—including Groucho's “Hooray for Captain Spaulding” with more quotable lines than any other Marx Brothers film: “One morning I shot an elephant in my pajamas. How he got into my pajamas, I'll never know.” Based on a play by George S. Kaufman. 98m/B VHS, DVD . Groucho Marx, Chico Marx, Harpo Marx, Zeppo Marx, Lillian Roth, Margaret Dumont, Louis Sorin, Hal Thompson, Robert Greig, Margaret Irving, Edward Metcalf, Kathryn Reece; D: Victor Heerman; W: Morrie Ryskind; C: George J. Folsey; M: Bert Kalmar, Harry Ruby.
