California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH), is a national leader in distance learning, named by Forbes magazine as one of the top cyber universities. The campus is located in the South Bay Area of Los Angeles. Founded in 1960, the University is one of twenty-three California State University (CSU) campuses and has the largest distance learning program in the CSU system. The University offered its first distance learning degree in 1974, and in 1995 offered one of the first online master's degree programs ever approved by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

CSU Dominguez Hills continues to be in the forefront of distance learning technology and academic excellence, garnering numerous awards, including the Best Distance Learning Teacher from the U.S. Distance Learning Association, an Omni Intermedia Award, an Aegis Award, two Telly Awards, and a Top 100 Video Producer Award.

Distance Learning Program

The distance learning unit is part of the College of Extended and International Education, whose mission is to extend the resources of the University to better serve the educational needs of its communities. The University has more than 4,000 students enrolled in distance learning programs in all fifty states and more than sixty countries.

Delivery Media

All distance learning courses have a Web site, and participants can interact with faculty and staff members via e-mail, telephone, and correspondence. Courses are conducted via live Webcast, where students participate in a live, interactive educational environment, including video transmission of the lecture; via asynchronous Internet, where participants log in at their convenience to complete class assignments and engage in discussion groups with their peers; via television, where CSUDH broadcasts 24 hours a day on cable systems throughout southern California; and via correspondence.

CSU Dominguez Hills currently offers ten degree and ten certificate programs via distance learning. There are no on-campus requirements for any CSUDH distance learning program. Programs include the following:

Master of Science in Engineering Management (M.S.E.M.).

Taught via asynchronous Internet, the M.S.E.M. is an interdisciplinary degree program designed to integrate the development of management and engineering skills focusing on problem solving in the synthesis of technical, financial, and organizational requirements for engineering projects in a rapidly changing environment.
