District-supported, 2-year, coed. Part of Wyoming Community College Commission. Awards certificates, transfer associate, and terminal associate degrees. Founded 1945. Setting: 125-acre small town campus. Total enrollment: 4,023. Student-undergrad faculty ratio is 14:1. 996 applied, 100% were admitted. Full-time: 1,875 students, 59% women, 41% men. Part-time: 2,148 students, 62% women, 38% men. Students come from 40 states and territories, 15 other countries, 7% from out-of-state, 1% Native American, 4% Hispanic, 1% black, 0.4% Asian American or Pacific Islander, 1% international, 45% 25 or older, 15% live on campus, 7% transferred in. Retention: 59% of full-time freshmen returned the following year. Core. Calendar: semesters. Academic remediation for entering students, ESL program, services for LD students, advanced placement, accelerated degree program, independent study, distance learning, summer session for credit, part-time degree program, adult/continuing education programs, co-op programs and internships. Open admission for state residents. Options: electronic application, early admission, international baccalaureate accepted. Required: high school transcript. Required for some: minimum 2.0 high school GPA. Placement: SAT and SAT Subject Tests or ACT required; ACT recommended. Entrance: noncompetitive. Application deadline: 8/15. Notification: continuous until 8/15.

Application fee: $0. State resident tuition: $1368 full-time, $57 per credit part-time. Nonresident tuition: $4128 full-time, $172 per credit part-time. Mandatory fees: $168 full-time, $7 per credit part-time. College room and board: $3460. Room and board charges vary according to board plan.

Collegiate Environment:

Orientation program. Drama-theater group, choral group, student-run newspaper. Most popular organizations: Student Senate, Student Activities Board, Agriculture Club, Theater Club, Phi Theta Kappa. Major annual events: Casino Night, Back to School Dance, Weekend of Welcome. Student services: health clinic, personal-psychological counseling, women's center. Campus security: 24-hour patrols, late night transport-escort service. 400 college housing spaces available; 359 were occupied in 2003-04. Option: coed housing available. Goodstein Library with 118,000 books, 500 serials, an OPAC, and a Web page. 130 computers available on campus for general student use. A campuswide network can be accessed from student residence rooms. Staffed computer lab on campus.

Community Environment:

Rich in oil and uranium, Casper is Wyoming's leading industrial city. Cattle and sheep ranches in the surrounding area provide the basis for the city's wool and livestock markets. Situated at the foot of Casper Mountain in the approximate geographic center of Wyoming, the climate is invigorating with 300 days of sunshine each year. The community has 70 churches, a hospital, library, symphony orchestra, theatre group, a mall, 11 theatres and a community concert series. Local recreation includes tennis, golf, trap shooting, a multipurpose event center, swimming pools, bowling alleys, excellent fishing and hunting, city and mountain parks, archery and rifle ranges, and a ski area. Several rodeos are held here each year, as well as skiing and mountain climbing events.
