Independent, comprehensive, coed. Awards bachelor's and master's degrees. Founded 1851. Setting: 50-acre suburban campus with easy access to Boston. Endowment: $12.1 million. Educational spending 2003-04: $5480 per student. Total enrollment: 1,181. Faculty: 150 (55 full-time, 95 part-time). Costs Per Year:

Application fee: $40. Comprehensive fee: $28,500 includes full-time tuition ($18,700), mandatory fees ($1000), and college room and board ($8800). Room and board charges vary according to housing facility. Part-time tuition: $620 per credit hour. Part-time mandatory fees: $250 per term.

Collegiate Environment:

Orientation program. Drama-theater group, choral group, marching band, student-run newspaper. Social organizations: 20 open to all. Most popular organizations: Center for Public Service, student government, Umoja-Nia, yearbook, Fashion Board. Major annual events: River Day/Family and Friends Weekend, Torchlight Parade, spring/winter balls. Student services: health clinic, personal-psychological counseling. Campus security: 24-hour emergency response devices and patrols, late night transport-escort service, controlled dormitory access. 910 undergraduates lived in college housing during 2003-04.
