Description:

Independent, comprehensive, coed. Awards bachelor's, master's, and first professional degrees. Founded 1877. Setting: 13-acre urban campus with easy access to Boston. Endowment: $242.5 million. Costs Per Year:

Application fee: $50. Comprehensive fee: $35,697 includes full-time tuition ($27,510), mandatory fees ($465), and college room and board ($7722). College room only: $4324. Room and board charges vary according to board plan and housing facility.

Collegiate Environment:

Orientation program. Drama-theater group, student-run newspaper. Social organizations: 60 open to all. Most popular organizations: athletic clubs, Industrial Design Club, Korean Students Association, Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual Alliance. Major annual events: Beaux Arts Ball, Artists' Ball, RISD Apparel Showcase. Student services: legal services, health clinic, personal-psychological counseling.
