Independent Roman Catholic, comprehensive, coed. Awards bachelor's, master's, and first professional degrees. Founded 1925. Setting: 23-acre urban campus with easy access to New Orleans. Costs Per Year:

Application fee: $25. Comprehensive fee: $19,300 includes full-time tuition ($11,300), mandatory fees ($900), and college room and board ($7100). Room and board charges vary according to location. Part-time tuition: $475 per credit hour.

Collegiate Environment:

Orientation program. Choral group, student-run newspaper. Social organizations: 64 open to all; national fraternities, national sororities; 2% of eligible men and 6% of eligible women are members. Most popular organizations: Mobilization at Xavier, AWARE, NAACP, California Club, Beta Beta Beta. Major annual events: Homecoming, Spring Fest, Martin Luther King Week for Peace.
