Clueless ★★★ I Was a Teenage Teenager; No Worries 1995 (PG-13)

Watch out “Beverly Hills 90210,” here comes Cher. No, not the singer Cher, but ultrafilthyrich brat Cher, who's out to make over her classmates and teachers, specifically flannelshirted transfer student Tai (Murphy). Aerosmith vamp Silverstone stars as the teenage manipulator who knows all too well how to spend her trust fund. The only person who can match her wits is disapproving stepbrother Josh (Rudd). (Ah, love.) Loosely based on Jane Austen's “Emma,” Heckerling, of “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” fame, knows this territory and directs a bright, surprisingly satirical romp. 113m/C VHS, DVD . Alicia Silverstone, Stacey Dash, Paul Rudd, Brittany Murphy, Donald Adeosun Faison, Julie Brown, Jeremy Sisto, Dan Hedaya, Wallace Shawn, Breckin Meyer, Elisa Donovan, Aida Linares; D: Amy Heckerling; W: Amy Heckerling; C: Bill Pope; M: David Kitay. MTV Movie Awards '96: Female Perf. (Silverstone), Most Desirable Female (Silverstone); Natl. Soc. Film Critics '95: Screenplay; Blockbuster '96: Female Newcomer, T. (Silverstone).
