High Fidelity
High Fidelity ★★★ 2000 (R)
Frears, Cusack, and the writing team from “Grosse Pointe Blank” successfully bring Nick Hornby's 1995 novel to the screen, transplanting it from London to Chicago in the process. Cusack is Rob, a stuck-in-adolescence record store owner who just broke up with Laura (Hjejle), his long-time, live-in love. This gets him to thinking about his Top Five All-Time Breakups. Cue flashbacks. It also sends him on some hilarious conversations with his employees: know-it-all Barry (Black) who wields his musical tastes like a weapon, and Dick (Louiso), who's bashful to the point of invisibility. Cusack does his usual fine job, but Black and Louiso take over whenever they're on screen. 113m/C VHS, DVD .
