The Flintstones
The Flintstones ★★½ 1994 (PG)
Preceded by massive hype, popular ‘60s cartoon comes to life thanks to a huge budget and creative sets and props. Seems that Fred's (Goodman) being set up by evil corporate types Cliff Vandercave (MacLachlan) and Miss Rosetta Stone (Berry) to take the fall for their embezzling scheme. Soon he gives up dining at RocDonald's for Cavern on the Green and cans best buddy Barney (Moranis). Forget the lame plot (32 writers took a shot at it) and sit back and enjoy the spectacle. Goodman's an amazingly true-to-type Fred, O'Donnell has Betty's giggle down pat, and Perkins looks a lot like Wilma. Wilma's original voice, VanderPyl, has a cameo as Mrs. Feldspar; listen for Korman's voice as the Dictabird. Add half a bone if you're under 12. 92m/C VHS, DVD . John Goodman, Rick Moranis, Elizabeth Perkins, Rosie O'Donnell, Elizabeth Taylor, Kyle MacLachlan, Halle Berry, Jonathan Winters, Richard Moll, Irwin Keyes, Dann Florek; Cameos: Laraine Newman, Jean Vander Pyl, Jay Leno; D: Brian Levant; W: Tom S.
