Early, Jubal Anderson
Early, Jubal Anderson (1816–94) Confederate general in the US Civil War. A Virginian lawyer with military training, he opposed secession. He led a daring raid on Washington, D.C. (1864), but later suffered defeats and was relieved of his command after being crushed by superior forces at Waynesboro (March 1865).
