Rossi, Giovanni Antonio de (1616–95). Roman Baroque architect. He designed the Church of Santa Maria in Publicolis, Rome (1641–3), the façade of which was designed with scenographic aspects in mind. His Santa Maria in Campomarzio (1676–86) and Cappella Lancellotti in San Giovanni in Laterano (1674–80), both in Rome, deserve mention for their splendour. His best-known work is the Palazzo Altieri, Rome (1650–76), with its spectacular four-flight staircase, although his finest work is arguably the Palazzo d'Aste-Bonaparte (1658–65), influenced by Borromini.
