Blackpool Town on the Irish Sea, Lancashire, nw England. One of Britain's most popular resorts, it has 11km (7mi) of sandy beaches, a 158m (520ft) tower (built 1895), many indoor and outdoor entertainments and a promenade which is illuminated every autumn.
