microbody Any of a class of cell organelles that typically are spherical vesicles, 0.2–1.5 μm, bounded by a single membrane. Microbodies contain enzymes responsible for the oxidation of various materials and they originate from the endoplasmic reticulum. They include peroxisomes and glyoxysomes (see glyoxylate cycle).
