Distance Learning Program

Drexel eLearning, a subsidiary of Drexel University, specializes in innovative, Internet-based distance education programs for working professionals in the United States and abroad. A pioneer in online education, Drexel has offered programs online since 1996. Using the same rigorous academic standards (admission criteria, curricula, accreditation, and exams), Drexel's online programs are taught by the same distinguished faculty members and lead to the same high-quality degree as those received on the campus.

Delivery Media

Drexel University's online courses require a student to have a personal computer with an Internet connection and use a Web browser to access the e-learning environment. Course instruction is delivered primarily asynchronously (i.e., where the teacher and learner are not physically at the same place at the same time). Instructional materials come in text, graphics, audio, and video formats and are available online 24/7. Students interact directly with each other and faculty members through e-mail, threaded discussions (online discussion boards), chat, and Web-based whiteboard facilities. All readings, assignments, quizzes, and exams are prespecified, monitored on a continuous basis, and submitted online.

Programs of Study

Drexel's online Bachelor of Science degree programs offered through the College of Nursing include RN-B.S.N. and RN-B.S.N.-M.S.N. programs, which focus on industry-current issues in nursing. In these programs, which are accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) and Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), students arrange to complete clinicals in their area. An RN license is required for admission to the programs. A B.S. in health services administration program is also available.

Bachelor of Science programs are also offered in business administration, communications and applied technology, computing technology, education, psychology, and general studies, with specializations in management and finance. The programs are designed for adult learners, who can transfer up to 135 out of 180 quarter credits.

Drexel's master's degree online programs offered through the College of Nursing include M.S.N. in contemporary nursing faculty, nursing leadership in health systems management, clinical trials research, acute care nurse practitioner (NP)*, adult psychiatric mental health (NP)*, completion program for NPs, and innovation and intra/entrepreneurship in advanced nursing practice. Programs are accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) and the CCNE and prepare nurses to move into managerial or leadership roles in their desired fields. Post-master's certificates are also available.

The M.B.A. Anywhere* program provides a broadly based management curriculum with available concentrations in marketing, finance, information systems strategy, engineering management, and entrepreneurship. This program optimizes the students' leadership potential in a twenty-four-month, part-time cohort format and is accredited by AACSB International, the highest accreditation for U.S. business schools.

Online master's degrees through Drexel's College of Engineering are available in engineering management, electrical engineering, software engineering, and computer science. Drexel University's College of Engineering is the third-largest private engineering college in the United States, with numerous faculty recognitions, highly ranked programs, and research accomplishments. Its curricula are accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc. (ABET), the leading authority on educational standards for the engineering and science professions.

Drexel, an internationally recognized center for education and research in all facets of information science and systems, also offers online M.S. degree programs in library and information science and in information systems. The M.S. program in library and information science is a top-ranked, ALA-accredited program that allows students to specialize in management of digital information or information/library services. The M.S. program in information systems features a wide range of courses that cover all stages of systems engineering as a life-cycle process.

Ranked as one of America's Best Graduate Schools for 2007 by U.S. News & World Report, Drexel's College of Education offers M.S. degrees in educational administration: collaborative leadership, global and international education, higher education, and the science of instruction.

The teacher certification program certifies students in elementary education or secondary education in the areas of biology, chemistry, physics, earth and space science, general science, environmental education, and/or mathematics. The certification program can be incorporated into the master's program or can be completed as a standalone program.

Add-on certificates available include instructional technology specialist, principal's certification, and teaching English as a second language. These programs incorporate current research on teaching and expose teachers to the latest developments in instructional technology.
