cartridge A container used to protect and facilitate the use of various computer-related media such as magnetic tape, magnetic disk, optical disk, integrated circuitry, or printer ink ribbon. It is usually designed so that the medium remains permanently within the cartridge or at least attached to it, and the medium itself is not touched by an operator.
