de Lara, Adelina (1872–1961)

English pianist. Born in Carlisle, England, on January 23, 1872; died in Woking, England, on November 25, 1961; studied with Clara Schumann.

Adelina de Lara was among a select number of pianists fortunate enough to be a pupil of one of Europe's foremost pianists, Clara Schumann . Schumann's unique Romantic style, which dated to the beginning of the 19th century when the piano was invented, was learned from her father Robert Schumann and passed on to her students. De Lara embraced Clara's style and technique, and her recordings are valued for their illumination of that earlier world.
