American diver. Name variations: Margaret Gestring. Born on November 18, 1922; died on April 20, 1992.
In 1936, at age 13 years, 9 months, Marjorie Gestring won the gold medal in the springboard competition at the Berlin Olympics, the youngest person ever to win an individual medal in any sport. Gestring's record withstood Fu Mingxia 's gold-medal win in platform-diving in Barcelona. Fu Mingxia was 11 weeks older.
