Duchess of Alençon . Name variations: Blessed Margaret of Lorraine, duchess of Alencon; Marguerite de Lorraine. Born in 1463; died on November 1, 1521; daughter of Yolande of Vaudemont (1428–1483) and Ferrey de Vaudemont also known as Frederick, count of Vaudemont; married René (d. 1492), duke of Alençon, on May 14, 1488; children: Charles, duke of Alençon (who married Margaret of Angoulême [1492–1549]); Françoise d'Alencon (who married Charles, duke of Vendome, and Francis II, duc de Longueville); Anne d'Alencon (who married William VII, marquis of Montferrat).
The pious Margaret of Lorraine married René, duke of Alençon, who was 23 years her senior. Widowed at 29, she continued to fulfill her duties as duchess of Alençon until her son came of age. She then became a Poor Clare at the convent of Argentan. Her feast day is November 2.
