Richter, Elise (1865–1943)
Austrian Romance language scholar. Born on March 2, 1865; died in Theresienstadt concentration camp in 1943.
In 1907, Elise Richter became the first woman to hold a faculty position in an Austrian university. She became an associate professor at the University of Vienna in 1921, and in 1922 founded the Verband der akademischen Frauen Österreichs, which she headed until 1930. Richter died in Theresienstadt concentration camp in 1943.
