Scharrer, Irene (1888–1971)
English pianist. Born in London, England, on February 2, 1888; died in London on January 11, 1971; cousin of Myra Hess (1890–1965).
Irene Scharrer was born in London in 1888, studied with Tobias Matthay, and made her successful London debut in 1904. A brilliant but subdued musician, she often played two-piano recitals with her cousin, Myra Hess . In 1925, Scharrer made her first tour of the United States, performing concertos but also doing excellent work as a recitalist and chamber-music pianist.
