Wunderlich, Frieda (1884–1965)
German-born American sociologist, feminist and social-political activist . Born in 1884; died in 1965.
Frieda Wunderlich served as a judge in Berlin from 1926 to 1933, during which time she was also a member of both the Berlin City Council (1926–33) and the Prussian Diet (1930–33). She fled Nazi Germany in 1933 and made it to New York, where she was the first woman to be a faculty member of the "University in Exile," the precursor of the New School for Social Research. In 1939, she became its first female dean. Wunderlich wrote a handbook on labor in Nazi Germany for the Office of Strategic Services during World War II.
