Affré, Agustarello
Affré, Agustarello, French tenor; b. St. Chinian, Oct. 23, 1858; d. Cagnes-sur-Mer, Dec. 27, 1931. He studied at the Toulouse Cons. and with Duvernoy at the Paris Cons. In 1890 he made his operatic debut as Edgardo at the Paris Opéra, singing there until 1911. On May 18, 1909, he made his first appearance at London’s Covent Garden as Samson. He later sang in San Francisco (1911) and New Orleans (1912). He was esteemed for his lyric-heroic roles, being equally successful in operas by his countrymen, as well as those by Mozart and Wagner.
