AAJ Trial Advocacy Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To assist law students to further their studies. Focus: Law. Qualif.: Applicants must be second and third year AAJ law student members; must be enrolled in an ABA accredited law school. Criteria: Scholarships are given to applicants who: exhibit an interest and proficiency of skills in trial advocacy; express a desire to represent victims; demonstrate a commitment and dedication to AAJ mission through involvement in an AAJ student chapter and minority caucus activities; and show financial need.

Funds Avail.: $2,500. To Apply: Applicants must submit resume; 500-word essay on how the applicants will meet the criteria; up to three recommendations from a faculty adviser, trial advocacy professor, Dean, AAJ member, or trial lawyer; and a completed form verifying applicant's student status. The Richard D. Hailey AAJ Law Student Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To assist law students to further their studies. Focus: Law. Qualif.: Applicants must be incoming first, second or third year African, American, Hispanic Asian American, Native American and bi-racial AAJ law student members; must be enrolled in an ABA accredited law school. Criteria: Scholarships are given to applicants who: exhibit an interest and proficiency of skills in trial advocacy; express a desire to represent victims; demonstrate a commitment and dedication to AAJ mission through involvement in an AAJ student chapter and minority caucus activities; and show financial need.

Alia Herrera Memorial Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To assist law students to further their studies. Focus: Law. Qualif.: Applicants must be students entering second or third year of law school, or having the equivalent of one year to complete; must be attending law schools in the Philadelphia, PA area; must be members of the law

student section of AAJ; must be children of AAJ members. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on the Scholarship Committee's review of academic records.

Funds Avail.: $3,000. To Apply: Applicants must submit cover letter; resume; transcript; letter of recommendation from a law professor or Dean of law school; 500-word essay on the topic (“Damage Caps”: Limiting Damage awards in Civil cases by State and/or federal statutes, compared to juries making damage awards, with judicial review; Who should bare the risk or loss, and why?). The Leesfield/AAJ Law Student Scholarships (Undergraduate/Scholarship)

Purpose: To assist law students to further their studies. Focus: Law. Qualif.: Applicants must be first and second year AAJ law student members. Criteria: Recipients are selected based on submitted application materials.

Funds Avail.: $1,500. To Apply: Applicants must submit resume; statement of financial need; 500-word written request substantiating the applicant's commitment to preserving the civil justice system; three recommendations from a faculty adviser, trial advocacy professor, dean AAJ member, or trial lawyer; and a completed form verifying applicant's student status.
