FAUX AMI
FAUX AMI, also false friend. A term in LANGUAGE TEACHING for a word that has the same origin and general appearance as a word in another language, so that learners mistakenly assume that both have the same meanings and uses: English deceive to trick, French décevoir to disappoint.
