The Thirteenth Floor ★½ 1999 (R)

Silly scifier with a confusing virtualreality plot and a lot of visual effects. An investigation into the mysterious death of tycoon Hannon Fuller (Mueller-Stahl) leads to the realization that he lived in parallel worlds—one in the present and one in 1937. Exec Douglas Hall (Bierko) stands to inherit, which raises the suspicious of cop McBain (Haysbert), while mysterious femme Jane (Mol) shows up, claiming to be Fuller's daughter. And then there's Hall's colleague Whitney (D'Onofrio), who also exists in the 1937 as a barkeep with a very important letter. Not that any of this turns out to be particularly interesting. 100m/C VHS, DVD . Craig Bierko, Vincent D'Onofrio, Armin MuellerStahl, Gretchen Mol, Dennis Haysbert, Steven Schub, Jeremy Roberts, Tia Texada, Alison Lohman; D: Josef Rusnak; W: Josef Rusnak; C: Wedigo von Schultzendorff; M: Harald Kloser.
