The Tin Soldier
The Tin Soldier ★★½ 1995 (PG)
Updated version of the Hans Christian Andersen story finds 12-year-old Billy (Knight) moving with his widowed mom (Sheedy) to a tough L.A. neighborhood. He's intimidated by the school bully to join a gang and smitten by a pretty girl who doesn't like his new friends. What's a guy to do? Why meet a mysterious toy shop owner (DeLuise), who gives Billy a tin soldier that magically transforms into a very real medieval knight named Yarik (Voight). Good intentions—no subtlety. Voight's directorial debut. 99m/C VHS . Trenton Knight, Ally Sheedy, Dom DeLuise, Jon Voight; D: Jon Voight. CABLE
