Antonacci, Anna Caterina

Antonacci, Anna Caterina, Italian soprano; b. Ferrara, April 5, 1961. She received her vocal training in Bologna. Following her operatic debut in Arezzo as Rossini’s Rosina in 1986, she was engaged to sing in such operatic centers as Bari, Rome, Venice, and Bergamo. In 1991 she appeared as Rossini’s Anais in Bologna. In 1992 she sang the title role in Rossini’s Ermione in the first British performance of that opera in concert in London. That same year she appeared as that composer’s Elisabetta in Naples. In 1994 she made her debut at London’s Covent Garden as Rossini’s Elcia. After singing Ermione at the Glyndebourne Festival in 1995, she appeared as Gluck’s Armide at Milan’s La Scala in 1996. In 1998 she returned to Glyndebourne to sing Rodelinda. Among her other roles of distinction are Fiordiligi, Semiramide, Dorliska, and Adalgisa.
