Björkander, Nils (Frank Frederik)

Björkander, Nils (Frank Frederik), Swedish pianist, teacher, and composer; b. Stockholm, June 28, 1893; d. Södertalje, March 5, 1972. He studied piano and counterpoint at the Stockholm Cons. (1910–16). In 1917 he founded his own music school. In 1920 he made his debut as soloist in Beethoven’s Third Piano Concerto in Stockholm. He wrote mainly for piano, his best known score being Fyra Skärgärdsskisser (4 Sketches from the Skerries; 1923; also arranged for orch. by others). His other piano pieces include an Impromptu and a Sonatina. He also wrote a Duo for Flute and Piano, a Duo for Violin and Piano, and songs.
