Cavaillé-Col, Aristide (b Montpellier, 1811; d Paris, 1899). Fr. organ-builder, most prominent of his family. Went to Paris 1833, built organ for basilica of St Denis. Also built org. for Madeleine. His orgs. in Eng. incl. that for Manchester Town Hall. Estimated to have built nearly 500 organs.
