Chambonnières, Jacques Champion de (b Paris, c.1602; d Paris, 1672). Fr. composer and harpsichordist. His father was harpsichordist to Louis XIII as he himself became to Louis XIV, who ennobled him. Regarded as founder of Fr. hpd. sch. Pubd. 2 books of Pièces de clavessin (1670), ed. in modern times by T. Dart, 1969.
