Dartington Summer School
Dartington Summer School. Annual combination of coaching, festival, and holiday lasting five weeks from late July at Dartington Hall, arts and education college near Totnes, Devon. Began in 1948 at Bryanston Sch., Dorset, moving to Dartington 1953. Dir. William Glock 1948–79, Peter Maxwell Davies 1979–84, Gavin Henderson from 1985. Leading composers and performers instruct and lecture students, who vary from the professional to the enthusiastic amateur. Duration was four weeks up to 1993.
