Dömling, Wolfgang

Dömling, Wolfgang, German musicologist; b. Munich, Dec. 20,1938. He was educated at the Univ. of Munich, where he took his Ph.D. with the diss. Der mehrstimmigen Balladen, Rondeaux und Virelais von Guillaume de Machaut (publ. in the Munchner Veroffentlichung zur Musikgeschichte, XVI, Tutzing, 1970). From 1977 he was a prof, at the Univ. of Hamburg. Domling has pursued studies in music of the Middle Ages, of the 19th century, and of the early 20th century. In addition to his articles in journals, he wrote Hector Berlioz: Die symphonisch-dramatischen Werke (Stuttgart, 1979), Igor Strawinsky: Studien zu Asthetik und Kompositionstechnik (with T. Hirsbrunner; Laaber, 1985), and “Kunstwerk der Zukunft—Gegenwart der Moderne: Uber einige Aspekte der franzosisch Wagner-Rezeption” in the Floros Festschrift (Wiesbaden, 1990).
