farandole
farandole (Fr.). Lively Provençal dance in 6/8 time in which, to the acc. of galoubet and tambourin, the participants danced through the streets holding each other by the hands or by a handkerchief. The farandole in Bizet's incidental mus. to L'Arlésienne is based on an authentic Provençal dance-tune but is not in 6/8.
