Feder, (Franz) Georg

Feder, (Franz) Georg, distinguished German musicologist; b. Bochum, Nov. 30, 1927. After studies at the univs. of Tubingen and Göttingen, he completed his education at the Univ. of Kiel (Ph.D., 1955, with the diss. Bachs Werke in ihren Bearbeitungen 1750–1950, I: Die Vokalwerke). In 1957 he became asst. to Jens Peter Larsen at the Joseph- Haydn-Inst. in Cologne, whom he succeeded as director in 1960, and as chief ed. of the complete ed. of Haydn’s works. In 1965 he also became ed. of the publication Haydn-Studien. Feder retired from these positions in 1990, but continued to work at the Joseph-Haydn-Inst. until 1992.
