Ferro, Gabriele
Ferro, Gabriele, Italian conductor; b. Pescara, Nov. 15, 1937. He studied with Franco Ferrara at the Cons, di Santa Cecilia in Rome. In 1967 he founded the Bari Sym. Orch., and from 1974 he conducted sym. concerts with the La Scala Orch. in Milan. He made his U.S. debut as a guest conductor with the Cleveland Orch. in 1978. He was music director of the Orch. Sinfonica Siciliana in Palermo, and, from 1988, served as chief conductor of the RAI Orch. in Rome. From 1992 to 1997 he was Generalmusikdirektor of the Stuttgart Opera.
