Greenfield, Edward (Harry) (b Westcliff-on-Sea, 1928). Eng. music critic and broadcaster. Joined Manchester Guardian 1953, working as lobby correspondent in House of Commons. Record critic from 1955, mus. critic from 1964, chief mus. critic 1977–93. Contrib. to Gramophone from 1960. Co-ed. of Stereo Record Guide from 1960. Regular broadcaster. Author of monographs on Puccini (1958), Joan Sutherland (1972) and André Previn (1973). OBE 1994.
