Isler, Ernst
Isler, Ernst, Swiss organist and music critic; b. Zürich, Sept. 30, 1879; d. there, Sept. 26, 1944. He studied at the Zürich Music School (1895–99) and with Rudorff at the Berlin Hochschule für Musik (1899–1901). He was organist at Zürich’s Reformed Church (1901–19) and of the Fraumünster (1919–42), and also taught at the Cons. He became music critic of the influential daily newspaper Neue Zürcher Zeitung in 1902, and held this position until his death; from 1910 to 1927 he was also ed. of the Schweizerische Musikzeitung. He publ. Das Züricherische Musikleben seit der Eröffnung der neuen Tonhalle (1895) (2 vols., Zürich, 1935-36).
