Kauffmann, Ernst Friedrich
Kauffmann, Ernst Friedrich , German composer, father of Emil Kauffmann; b. Ludwigsburg, Nov. 27, 1803; d. Stuttgart, Feb. 11, 1856. He studied at the Univ. of Tübingen (1825–27). He became principal of the Realschule at Ludwigsburg, but because of his connection with revolutionists he lost his position in 1835 and was imprisoned in Asperg (1838–42), where he wrote 6 sets of songs, which became popular.
