Lamentation Symphony
Lamentation Symphony. Nickname for Haydn's Sym. No.26 in D minor, 1770, because certain themes resemble the plainsong melodies sung in RC churches in the week before Easter. Also sometimes known, for unknown reason, as ‘Christmas’ Sym. (Weihnachtssymphonie).
