Lendvai, (Peter) Erwin
Lendvai, (Peter) Erwin, Hungarian composer; b. Budapest, June 4, 1882; d. Epsom, Surrey, March 31, 1949. He was a student of Koessler in Budapest and of Puccini in Milan. After teaching at the Jaques Dalcroze school in Hellerau (1913–14), the Hoch Cons, in Frankfurt am Main (1914–19), the Klindworth-Scharwenka Cons, in Berlin (1919–22), and the Volksmusikschule in Hamburg (1923–25), he was active as a choral conductor. He eventually settled in England. He publ. the method Chorschule. Among his works were the opera Elga (Mannheim, Dec. 6, 1916; rev. 1918); Sym. (1909) and other orch. scores; chamber music; vocal pieces.
