Lichnowsky, (Prince) Karl
Lichnowsky, (Prince) Karl (b Vienna, 1761; d Vienna, 1814). Austrian aristocrat of Polish descent. Patron of mus., maintaining str. qt. and sponsoring orch. concerts at his entertainments. Pupil and patron of Mozart, who accomp. him to Prague, Leipzig, Dresden, and Berlin 1789. Beethoven's Opp. 1, 13, 26, and 36 are ded. to him. Employed str. qt. led by Schuppanzigh which gave f.ps. of qts. by Haydn and Beethoven.
